The last 10 percent
I’ve heard the last 10% is 90% of the work. And that is so true. I’ve been working for the last few nights trying to get my website www.gamecarpet.com up and running. I bought hosting at Dreamhost. I am not very happy with them. More on this at some other time.
Ruby on rails is great for building an application quickly, but deploying it can be painful, especially if your host isnt set up correctly. I had all those problems. Also the fact, that I had to optimize my site for speed, add features, make it look good, etc tired me completely. I spent almost all of last night, tweaking the css & designing the logo. The logo came out great ( I actually outdid myself there by fluke ) but it is a little too big for the page. I’ve slept for a total of 8 hours in the last 3 days. It is crazy that I still feel like posting to my blog and working on the website. Dont know where I’m getting all this energy from. But its great.
Please go to my site if you get a chance and send me some feedback if you have any. All feedback is welcome.
Back to work.
Flash Games Page 3
I’m going to keep this one short, I am in the process of creating a flash games website. You can see a preliminary version of the site here. It is functional right now and I have a lot of features I want to add to this page. Just wanted something interesting to learn while I learn PHP.
I will make the code available for download along with the data once I am finished.
Update:
I was wasting too much time with PHP. I rewrote the whole thing with Ruby on Rails. Not bad for one day of work. The game data is from a turnkey script I downloaded.
Beating a speed camera redux
Just saw this ad on my affiliate network. It’s a cool way to escape speed cameras. You take their spray and spray it onto your license plates. You do this one time and your plates are protected.
How does this work ?
A majority of red light & speed cameras utilize a strong flash to photograph the license plate on your car. Once sprayed on your license plate, PhotoBlocker’s special formula produces a high-powered gloss that reflects the flash back towards the camera. This overexposes the image of your license plate, rendering the picture unreadable. With PhotoBlocker, your license plate is invisible to traffic cameras yet completely legible to the naked eye.
I so wish I had this when I got my huge speeding ticket. Speaking of speed limits, I hate the fact that there is a uniform speed limit and that the speed limit hasnt changed. Cars nowadays are engineered so much better. If I pay more for my car and the insurance company charges me higher taxes for it, I better be allowed to speed. I dont know about you but, when I drive with the cruise control on and within the speed limit (I did this once after I got my speeding ticket), I feel sleepy. There is absolutely nothing to do. The drive just gets infinitely boring. When you’re speeding, you have to be alert. When will the cops get this ?
